Auction highlights on view until April 29th!

April 22, 2024

Move over, Hollywood! The hottest ticket available right now isn't a blockbuster premiere, but a captivating display showcasing a collection of Princess Diana's iconic dresses in Hong Kong. Julien's Auctions surprised fashion enthusiasts and royal watchers alike with this unexpected preview, which has already captured interest and garnered international headlines.

The exclusive pop-up previewing “Princess Diana’s Elegance & A Royal Collection” will be on display at K11 MUSEA from April 17th to 29th, 2024. The live and online auction on Thursday, June 27th, 2024 will take bidders through the most extensive Princess Diana collection sold since 1997, showcasing a selection of Diana's most iconic garments and accessories alongside significant pieces from British fashion history.

"Julien’s is honored to present this historic auction that will celebrate Princess Diana’s iconic fashion style and her reign as the People’s Princess and will be the largest Diana collection to come to auction in 27 years," Martin Nolan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, said.

"We are also delighted to bring back many of Diana’s favorite fashion ensembles to Asia and Europe that she wore on some of her highly publicized international royal appearances and humanitarian efforts such as her Catherine Walker suit from her 1989 visit to Hong Kong. Furthermore, this showcase in Hong Kong represents Julien’s efforts to expand our presence and development in the region and our leadership in the auctions of Royal Fashion," Nolan said.

The Catherine Walker suit referenced by Nolan is the yellow and blue skirt suit on display, worn by Diana to visit a British military base as well as to meet children at the Hong Kong Red Cross in November, 1989. She also wore it in London on Valentine's Day, 1990.

Also on display are a variety of shoes and handbags which give visitors a look at the smaller and more everyday items that made up Diana's wardrobe.

To truly understand Diana's fashion influence, one must see it in the context of British royalty. The preview offers a glimpse into history with a rare Christian Dior gown once owned by Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor. Also on view is a nightgown belonging to Queen Victoria. These garments provide a vivid view into the lives of some of history's most influential British women.

Julien's Auctions recently sold Princess Diana's Jacques Azagury-designed black and blue evening dress for $1,148,080 in December 2023, setting a new world record at auction for the most expensive dress ever worn by Diana. The dress, which is decorated with celestial symbols, was worn by Diana in Florence, Italy in May 1985 during a trip to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The auction saw a fierce bidding war between global bidders, with the price almost doubling the previous record of $604,800 set by Diana's 1991 velvet gown by Victor Edelstein.

“Princess Diana’s Elegance & A Royal Collection” is expected to set new marks for Diana and break new ground for what it means to own artifacts from the distinguished lives of British Royalty.

Register to bid now! The hammer drops on June 27th, 2024, live in Ireland. We’ll be waiting for you.
