An original painting on canvas by renowned filmmaker James Cameron. Titled “Woman Coming Out of Her Chysalis,” the painting was a gift from Cameron to a member of the Avatar franchise production team. Depicting a woman freeing herself from a shell before a fantastical floral structure, the painting was inspired by the production team member shedding her motion capture performance suit.

The canvas is stretched on a wooden frame, which is housed in a silver-tone metal outer frame with no glass panel. Attached to the back of the wooden frame are a cloth satchel, which contains mementos of the friendship between Cameron and the team member, who worked on the Avatar series for twelve years; as well as a South American Indigenous ceremonial talisman, given to Cameron following a ceremony he witnessed in preparation for the film.
